Burning off the dead stuff

After a winter of storms there was all the usual winter detritus plus an amazing amount of twigs and small branches.
We raked and gathered and kept a garden bonfire going, and at the same time burned the dead grass on the slopes. This latter task is quite exciting as you never know how quickly it will burn, or when it will suddenly flare up, but we had the hosepipe plugged in and ready to go if things started to get out hand. As usual it wasn't needed but Janet is a health and safety officer! Janet took things from a slightly different angle.
I hope our neighbours weren't too irritated by the smoke drifting over their garden.
