Ramblings and Mutterings

The Blacks are staying up!

We did it! Neath R.F.C. has avoided relegation!

After a thumping victory against Pontypridd last week, we thought we had achieved safety but a Lazarus like comeback by Swansea R.F.C. over their past two games meant that we needed to win today or go to Swansea on the last day and win. Aberavon our closest rivals are also in trouble, but needed just one point to achieve their safety.

The game kicked off in perfect early Summer conditions, and there was a great crowd to receive both teams. Neath started well and got in to an early 10 nil lead, but Aberavon fought back and it was soon 10 all coming up to half time. A James Thomas penalty though sent us in at half time in the lead at 13-10. If it had stayed like this both teams would be safe, but there was no way it was going to end like that.

The second half begun and we slowly got the ascendency, but Aberavon were still in it, but then Dale Ford made another tremendous break for our scrum Josh Davies to score his second try of the game. At 20-10 and with 20 minutes still to go the game could have gone either way, but then the breathing space we needed came, as some try line pressure was converted and that was it, 27-10. Aberavon still had their moments, but this game was done and dusted!

A big shout to the lads, over these past two games we have really dug deep and got the results we deserved. It’s been a tough old season, on and off the pitch and there is a long way to go if we’re to get back to the top where we deserve to be, but we can do it. The Neath Spirit is too strong!

Neath Neath Neath!
