Captured Crane Flies

It's obviously not good weather for crane flies. It was miserable for me too, until a cheeky fantail came flitting and scolding around me. I tried to get a shot of him, but he didn't stay in one place for more than a split second. It's the first one to do this in my garden for a couple of years. Pure delight!

The bellbird also paid her first visit for the season, and the grey warbler kept up his sweet, wavering song. While I was thinking how wonderful to have three native birds in my garden a huge wing passed a window. I rushed to see what it was and saw two harrier hawks circling and gracefully interacting low overhead.

Cooler weather has its compensations.
