Nothing but the cloud...

Today we attempted to climb the Glyder's via Bristly Ridge. With the great weather of the past few days, we didn't think we'd have much trouble...

Halfway up Bristly ridge we began to ascend into thick cloud, which was being formed as the prevailing wind was pushed up the mountainside. We pushed on further, attempting to summit the 994m Glyder Fach, yet when we reached the summit plateau this was the view that greeted us.

We judged visibility to be less than 8m, and although we both had a map and compass each, we thought that pushing on was too risky and dangerous, especially as we were walking very close to exposed cwms and corrie basins.

We then decided to follow our bearing back South to Bristly Ridge, and then Llyn Ogwen, where we had lunch watching the rolling clouds above us.

We then went to Aber Falls near to Penmaenmawr, where we saw some steep waterfalls.

Later in the evening I checked my Garmin watch to see how close we had come to the summit of Gyder Fach. At our closest, we were around 30m away from the summit, yet because of the cloud, we had no idea...
