Uffington White Horse

About the worst place to see the Uffington White Horse from is right on top of it.

Many people find it remarkable that somebody would be able to carve out such a large figure on the ground without actually 'seeing it' from afar. But it is so stylised, I don't think this would be too much of a problem. The remarkable thing for me is that it is dated as bronze age.

Oh, and the other truly remarkable 'fact' is that the small mound called 'dragon hill' just below the horse is reputedly where St. George slew the dragon…. well, you learn something new every day.

"Twas bryllyg and ye slythy toves, did gyre and gymble in ye wabe"
… sorry, wrong dragon!
