Hall Clock for The Hill House

This morning before a meeting at The Hill House I managed to take a quick shot of the Hall Clock.

I wanted to capture some movement in the clock pendulum, so this is an unusual angle taken from the floor.

Designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh in 1904. The case was made by John Craig and the works were by created by David Hislop.

Mackintosh designed few large clocks, and this is the most formal of them. It projects simply from between two uprights in the panelling in the hall, thus requiring no elaborate case to support it. Its stark geometric forms relate more to the hall furniture than to the wall stencilling which surrounds it.
