Mycorrhiza in rice roots

Might not look like much again but i think the regular rectangular blue blobs in the middle of this rice root are arbuscules. These are fungal structures that grow into root cells and help transfer nutrients to the plant and collect nutrients from the plant. I say i think because i've spent a couple of weeks looking for them with different staining techniques and only today have i seen something that looks about right! So today's blip is 40x magnified imaged of trypan blue stained mycorrhized rice root.

Spent 2 hrs in the herbarium again today. Nearly got through a whole box of figs collected around the 1960s-70s (mounting, not eating). Looking forward to next week already.
