The tie that binds

Today centred on hanging the exhibition of student art work in the Theatre Foyer Gallery for this year's Demirkan Asetey RC'76 Art competition award ceremony, held  after school, when our three visiting judges selected this year's winners.  This is the 13th year of this event, sponsored by the class of '76 in memory of their class mate.  Maybe not a major event in the whole school calendar, but nevertheless, one that is significant in upholding traditions, recognising that we are 'family' and celebrating students who are successful in Art.  Demirkan's elderly father always attends and inspires us with his softly spoken words as he briefly talks about his son, this school and the role of Art in a meaningful life. Several RC'76 alumni were there - so nice to see them together with today's students - and one of the judges - as last year and several years past - is a graduate of '03, previous winner of this competition (in its first year if memory serves) and an ex-student of mine!  To make it even more memorable, today's ceremony started with RC Singers, all 44 of them, performing from their recent Prague International choral competition repertoire and their singing was very much enjoyed.  After the presentation of prizes there are light refreshments for everyone who then spends a little time looking at the exhibition when quite a few photographs are taken :)  Done and dusted for another year, this is one of those 'RC Family events' when the tie that binds is almost tangible.
