Dandelion Clock!

As a child I loved dandelion clocks but never wondered how the bright yellow flower became a delicate timepiece? Has anyone ever seen the change from yellow flower to fluffy, white lollipop and who, I wonder, started the rumour that you could tell the time by blowing seeds into the sky?
