The seaside English

I find one of the great things about being in a seaside town is people watching, seeing how the British go about enjoying their day on sand and sea. We've all seen those old 1920's & 30's photos of men in their tweed suits and caps, women in sensible coats, by the seaside as was the way back then, but sometimes it's not so very different today, as many day trippers park themselves on the sands in their 'normal' clothes, maybe socks off, looking so very 'English'.
I was hoping to find time while back up North to go over to Bradford to see the Only In England exhibition at the National Media Museum, which is all about this Englishness, as seen through the lens of Tony Ray-Jones and Martin Parr, men with a keen eye for such things. Maybe I'll be back to catch it...
