Between Lyon and Montpellier

We took the TGV from Lyon to Montpellier, leaving Lyon at 1:10 pm. Less than 2 hours later we were in Montpellier, having paid only €20 each for the privilege (admittedly this low price was because we'd booked months in advance).

Carl and I met at 11:00 am or so at the Saxe Gambetta metro station, which is where our different lines meet. We had a leisurely breakfast in a part of the city which was new to us, and then made our way back to Gare de Part Dieu by metro, with just a short wait before our platform for the TGV was announced.

After forty minutes or so of the journey we retired to the buffet car for most of the rest of our time on board. It's just a short walk from Montpellier station to our rental apartment, but we took a tram anyway. Things around the station are much more chaotic then four years ago, due to a major upgrade which is in progress, and we didn't fancy the prospect of dragging our bags through the streets. We met Mimi, our host, at 3:30 to pick up the keys and get the usual run-down about the apartment, after which a bit of a siesta was called for before heading off to the Old Town for our evening meal.

After a pleasant meal we fell into a great little bar where we spent a fair while until the early hours soaking up the terrific atmosphere and sampling beers and other beverages.
