Our Fuzzy Friend

Eryn's first sighting of an owl - we saw two adults, a juvenile and this cute little one waiting patently for some food. The three big birds landed near us for a conference and the juvenile took off with the mole before mom paid the chick a visit.

We'd been walking all over the forest for hours exploring, filming birds and their sounds, photographing raindrops, slugs and whatever else we could find. Energy levels were low, the apples were eaten and the berries all around us were still small green.

During the day we'd seen sunshine and rain, taken turns to slip and fall in the mud, step into puddles, get stung by thistles and hunt for doc leaves, We were tired, happy and caked in drying mud, but it was time to go home.

I was about to head back, but the longer high loop trail beckoned, so we followed the whim.

The whim took us deeper into the forest. There was a screech, silence, we stopped and waited, more screeches and calls high in the trees.

"Owl" said Eryn.

We ran, and we all arrived at the nest site together. Then baby popped out to see what the fuss was all about. Over an hour later we were still there.

Thanks to Laurie for the use of the Lens
