Plant Cell Motifs

So sorry I just had to do another collage today...I went and had a look at our new multi-purpose visitor centre in Christchurch’s Botanic Gardens. There were so many wonderful aspects about it is just couldn't get in one shot.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge formally open the new Christchurch Botanic Gardens Visitor Centre by cutting a floral rope on April 14th. It still hasn't been finished and when it is it should be fantastic place to visit.

Designed along the lines of a giant glasshouse, the new $16.4 million building will combine a working nursery with a permanent exhibition telling the story of Christchurch through plants and gardens. It also has a gift shop, café (opening in May), function centre, and a botanical research herbarium and library.

Built to celebrate the 150 Anniversary of Christchurch Botanic Gardens, the design marries clean glass panels and plant cell motifs to create a visually striking building that sits at ease within its natural surroundings. Leading New Zealand architects Patterson Associates drew inspiration from the existing historic conservatories within the Botanic Garden adding a modern twist to create a highly functional and inspirational space.
