Stumped

So this doesn't happen often any more - its a mildly annoying sensation as I know that I should know - but what's this plant? It has a look of the early growth of an orchid - but I don't think it is. It's relatively abundant on our mainly limestone soil - but that's not a huge clue as all of our verges are SSI's and attract botanists from far and wide.
So over to you Blippers - any clues?
