It's Grim Up North

River Eden, druids and old mines

We choose our walks to avoid cows and lambs, so this walk along the Eden, northwards from Little Salkeld, seemed to have potential.
It had more than potential, it had the lovely river, a disused mine, (who knew that gypsum was mined in Cumbria?), caves and Long Meg, one of the biggest druid's circles in the UK.
We met four people on a 5.5 mile walk.
The mines and Long Meg need a visit specifically for taking photos on a day with better light.
A walk that I would highly recommend to anyone who lives up here in Cumbria or visiting on holiday. NB The Eden Valley is a great holiday destination for walking, peace and quiet and good pubs.
