Pond Buffet

It's beginning to be a daily routine for this Red-shouldered Hawk. She sits above my pond trying to decide which fish, frog, or snake she would like to dine on. This afternoon I watched as she dropped like a rock to the water's surface, only to fly back up to her perch empty-handed taloned. I guess that she is successful enough to keep coming back. I counted all my larger fish…no one is missing…so far!

Earlier this morning a Broad-winged Hawk was checking out the Pond Scene. She is much larger than this Red-shouldered. I haven't been lucky enough to get a photo of her yet. But the season is still young!
