Day 3 - Wild Mustang

Mustangs graze and run the vast BLM (Bureau of Land Management) lands in this region of southeast Oregon - and there are actually issues with overgrazing and high fertility rates. BUT are they not lovely running free or what! I knew they were here from previous reading and had hoped to find a group - this is a mare who was with a young stallion and another mare - taking off in flight. So lovely and free!

We are in Winnemucca, Nevada now and I am posting in a small coffee shop - an internet touchdown spot. This is after driving through land that we are sure you could make a 100 mile circle of and see nothing but sagebrush and nothing running through than the one road we were on, a road we had to ourselves. Just prior to this we stopped in Fields just north of the Nevada border, population 12, for their world famous milk shakes - literally a quart of hard ice cream beaten into a spoon thick shake with whatever fruit etc. you wanted. Half of mine is in the ice chest!

Winnemucca is a smaller Nevada gambling town. We walked Main Street - not a lot to write home about but people manage lives here as they do in Fields, population 12 as I said. There are so many ways to live a life and getting out of our urban notch is sure a good thing to do! Another 100 and some to go for a camp spot. Or so our map says.
