Amazing

ERC Ingolstadt won the German ice hockey championship tonight.

They won 2-0 in game 7 of the play off finals, at Köln in front of 18,000 Köln fans. Fortunately I was able to see it on Servus TV. Not live of course - I'd need a TV licence for that.

A remarkable achievement. They've never even reached the final round before. They finished 9th in the league, so had to take on Berlin in the best of 3 preliminary round to get to the quarters. Krefeld eliminated in the quarters followed by league winners Hamburg in the semis. Best of 7 series, like the finals

In the Blip is Tyler Bouck, who retired after tonight's game. Delighted for him, and all the others. A bit sad for goalie Markus Janka because he didn't get to play many games this season. Still a champion, of course.

Sad too for the Köln players - in tears at the end. I've been there. My son was there on Sunday night.

Very glad to have been to 3 or 4 of the Ingolstadt games this season. A very special one.

Oh, and it's the club's 50th anniversary this year.
