Log jam.

Many parts of New Zealand have seen extensive deforestation over the generations. Up in the Coromandel region are some of the workings of the processes used to get the logs down the hillsides and along the rivers on their journey to saw mills and the like. The volume of wood passing through gates such as this was impressive: thousands of logs an hour at their peak.
