Taking a Break

After spending two nights in the alpine village of Hanmer Springs, Raewyne and I headed back to Blenheim. We drove from Hanmer to the village of Waiau and then through the “Inland Road” to State Highway One just south of Kaikoura. After a late lunch break there we drove up the SH1 coastal route and home to Blenheim.
We had our camera gear with us and of course that meant a number of stops along the way for some landscape photography. Green, green hills after recent heavy rain and towering mountains topped with freshly fallen snow. The scenery was rather lovely.
Despite our grand surroundings we were rather taken with this group of farm dogs tied up to a fence alongside a very muddy paddock. They had obviously been herding cattle down a very wet and muddy hillside and across the road to the cattle yards there. The cattle were not too happy and were making a lot of noise in the yards. All this was in the middle of nowhere it seemed. The dogs must have completed the stock work and were sitting very patiently waiting to be called to work again.
