Yellow & blue

I love the combination of yellow and blue and here we have the beautiful blue of bluebells beneath the yellow of Rhododendron luteum, once known as Azalea pontica. This comes from the same region of Turkey, the Pontic Alps, as does that wretched Rhododendron ponticum, but is a far superior plant, with not only a wonderful fragrance but being deciduous, excellent autumn colour too. Like it's cousin, however, it has escaped to the wild in various places, certainly in Argyll. The best azalea, in my humble opinion.

On the right you might spot a small clump of the white bluebell.
