Green River Window

Today we made our “first” riverside walk together. “First” has to be counted from day of arrival. Not as the first of May. Of course it’s Labour Day, a day of historic importance and therefore a festive day here in Germany. In the small sleeping town no rally to march. Its better to do our Green Walk through the hillside forest, alongside the little Peace Valley Brook. And from there following the right Eastern riverside. We barely met other walkers on our way. Silence.

What a relief to saunter through the high wet grass. To look to the rowing boats passing by, the canoes on the quick floating Weser. We saw a big young swan flying low and landing. Both we reacted too slow to share that moment. Willemien spend her time on flowers, insects and horses. I was looking for some magical place or view. Waiting.

Of course we “know” this footpath, as we know where to expect the sheep, some special trees. And where the murmuring waters of the hill brooks come flowing down to the river. But as I wrote before on the 25th of February, it is worth trying to imagine to be the first visitor of this small universe here and look with the feeling eyes of a child. Eyes of miraculous discovery, eyes that sense the invisible. It had started to drizzle when we reached the Fisherman’s Cabine. So we took shelter there for some time.

On leaving again I made some pictures near the wonderful oaktree, that oversees a brook, meandering through the riverside meadow. From there you have a splendid view over the river , turning towards you. And some time later, I had to hurry back to this “Green River Window on the South-East”. While it remained drizzling the sun broke through to shine a film of light over the greens, a gentle touch of this first May sun, half hidden, between the rainclouds..
