All change in Whitley Bay

Went house hunting in Whitley Bay today. Still not sure if it's where I want to live or not so had a walk around the area and down by the beach.
Whitley Bay used to be a top seaside resort, which attracted tourists from far and wide. Apparently, it used to be called just Whitley but often got confused with the other seaside resort Whitby so changed to Whitley Bay to avoid confusion.
It has a white domed building called Spanish city (due to Spanish design) which was built in 1912 and used to house a permanent funfair. I remember enjoying trips here as a child. Unfortunately the fair closed down in the 1990s leaving the dome Spanish city empty and neglected for many years. However, now the council are regenerating the area and the Spanish city is being refurbished with restaurants and entertainment venuesat long last!
I saw that the old road outside Spanish city has been pedestrianised and made attractive with sculptures and these benches named in memory of the previous much loved fairground rides that used to be in Spanish city!
