Giro d'Italia

Next week the Giro d'Italia will pass through the town of Antrim. Posters have been displayed to warn of road closures. The official colour is pink and the whole route is blossoming with pink on shop fronts and hoardings.
Here is one in front of the grim exterior of the Antrim Police Station.
However the TV satellite trucks and cameras are not there for the bike race, one of the biggest and most important in the international calendar of cycling. They await news of the fate of Gerry Adams, President of Sinn Féin, who is presently under arrest in the "Serious Crime Suite" within.
The Union flag is not part of the police station, but is one of the multitude which decorate street lamp posts in loyalist areas of the Province. Pink, the official colour for the Giro d'Italia, will be an interesting contrast with the red, white and blue of the flags.
