Get Your Boiled Peanuts!!

Some of you may be familiar with boiled peanuts. Here in the south (of the USA) they are sold at all festivals, flea markets and various street corners by the quart for about $3.00 or $4.00. Recently the hubby has tried his hand at doing it himself and I gotta say he is doing a tasty job of it.

This is the third batch he has made up over the last month or so. You buy raw peanuts at $1.50 a pound and you boil them in salted water for about 4 hours give or take. We like the cajun style of boiled peanuts so those red flecks you are seeing is red pepper and cayenne pepper. It gives those peanuts a bit of fire!!

Most places you buy them at the peanuts tend to get too mushy because they keep them hot and simmering for very long periods until they sell all their nuts, but the hubby has come up with the right timing and his peanuts are perfect and taste really good and not mushy at all. He's been cooking up about 4 pounds at a time which is plenty for us and then we give the rest away to our friends and family.

I'll be headed down Miami way tomorrow morning to visit Uncle John for a few days and won't have access to a computer (Santa did not bring me a laptop). So I'll take lots of pictures and back blip them when I get back and catch up on commenting.

Have a great week everyone!!
