Today's the day ........................... for a museum visit

I have to confess that I have not been to the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh since it was re-opened after its grand refurbishment in 2011.

It always was an interesting place to go - but now, it's pretty amazing - especially as it is free to go in. There's loads for kids to push and press but lots to keep adults interested too. It's well worth a visit if you've a couple of hours to spare in Edinburgh.

This is Wylam Dilly , one of the two oldest surviving railway locomotives in the world. It was built in 1815 by William Hedley and Timothy Hackworth for Christopher Blackett, the owner of Wylam colliery. It was initially designed for and used on the Wylam Waggonway to transport coal .....................
