Lighthouse on Hampsfell!

Saturday was the first of 3 orienteering events being held in the southern Lake District. This was a middle race; lots of controls in a shorter distance than usual. The area was Summerhouse Knott near Haverthwaite; a lovely place with intricate terrain. Apart from the first control, where the person starting a minute behind caught me up, I had a good run with only minor wobbles. Some people found it trickier. As we had plenty of time we went to Grange-over-Sands, where there is only salt marsh confusingly. We walked up Hampsfell through Eggerslack Woods, where the bluebells were amazing and then out to the open fell beyond. The orchids and cowslips were out and it was difficult to know what to blip. It was quite hazy, so the central fells were hard to see. On the 1:25000 map there is a lighthouse marked, but it appears to be a large cairn. The blip shows the 'lighthouse and a man and his dug.
