Arctic Star

I have written before about my late Dad and the Arctic/Russian Convoys.

When the Government decided to create and issue The Arctic Star for surviving servicemen and the relatives of others, now dead, who had served in that hellish theatre of war, I had mixed feelings, because he was always very dismissive of medal-wearing and adamant that the lives lost and comradeship shown were far more important. But Alex McKay has four grandsons and five great grandchildren for whom his part in history is at the least interesting and perhaps fascinating. So we applied and all these months later A S McKay's medal has arrived.
