Blue, bokeh, and backlit, but not backblipped

Sorry about the literal description. I wasn't very inspired photo-wise today. And I skipped yesterday in order to overcome the backblipping backlog and catch up with some other journals.

Market in the morning, work the rest of the day. This evening on S's initiative we went to the Centre Culturel to see a sortie de résidence of a dance company. This is a fairly common event, where the company uses the space to develop new work over a week or two and then invites the public to come and see some of the results. This show, Regarde-moi, involving two dancers and a choreographer, was in its very early stages. I'm not a huge fan of modern dance at the best of times (unless it's hip-hop), and it initially looked as if it was going to be quite tedious; the music wasn't music and the dance wasn't dance. But then they got into silent improvisations and it improved considerably. The dancers were first invited to do a dance where one of them insisted on being looked at while the other avoided looking at her, and then they reversed roles and did the same thing again; it was intriguing to see the differences arising from their personal interpretations. Then they did an improvisation where they kept their eyes on each other all the time, which was also very good.

They finished with a routine that I would recommend they don't keep in the final show; the three of them each took a chair, sat very close to an audience member, knees touching, and stared fixedly into their eyes for about five minutes. This was pretty boring for those who weren't being stared at. However I was amused that one dancer chose the woman next to me who'd been periodically texting throughout the performance, and was indeed texting at that very moment. She calmly finished the text and put the phone in her handbag, but I could see her getting twitchy when it buzzed a couple of times in mid-stare. How long would she resist after the staring finished? About a minute -- longer than I expected :)
