This is America's answer to the TGV, the ICE and the Bullet Train. It's very quiet, comfortable and it shaved 40 minutes off the trip from Boston to New York. Unfortunately, a high speed train can only travel as fast as the tracks on which it runs will allow. The tracks that run down the coast of Long Island Sound are not dedicated to high speed rail and are not set up for a train to travel at 250km/hour (or 156mph). By my reckoning, our top speed was about 100mph on long straight stretches. Until people in this country are persuaded what a fantastic thing high speed rail travel is, we're mired in the Stone Age commuting to airports, being strip-searched by security, sitting for hours with our knees under our chins, and polluting the atmosphere with exhaust from jet fuel.
