Crazy Overstuffed Life

Like Mother Like Daughter

One of the most poignant and painful aspects of parenthood is when nature hands you your double.

Miss R is so much like me it hurts. Competitive, perfectionistic and lazy (yes, it is possible to be both). She is at an age where girlhood is awkward and painful and I am reliving it with her and through her. Age 11 and three quarters is no easier the second time around than it was the first.

She had a basketball tournament today. They did not win, she did not score, and R was feeling very discouraged. It had been a difficult day for me as well. After basketball we stopped in at the Second Cup where I bought her an Italian soda. Within about 20 minutes we were both feeling a little bit better and up for an iPad selfie.
