From My Everyday Life

Ode to Jackson Pollock

I took a bunch of nice pictures today of pretty flowers in my neighborhood, some in color, others in black & white. Pretty pictures.

Then I decided to try some that focused not on the flowers themselves, but something they overshadow: the stem, the underside of the flower, the branches.

This is a shot of the Magnolia tree in my neighbor's yard, focusing on a small branch rather than the flowers. It turned out to be more interesting than I though, reminding me of the abstract, artfully random lines, shapes and colors of a Pollock painting.

It's a bit jangly, but I think it works.
