Michelangelo Tondo

I usually pay a quick homage at least to this when at the Royal Academy. The infant Christ is recoiling from the goldfinch being held out to him by his little cousin John - the goldfinch that was to draw out the thorns from his brow before his crucifixion.
Michelangelo left this tondo unfinished: my theory is that he was discouraged by knocking off the toes on Christ's right foot - see more clearly in 'large'.
