Giro d'Italia's pink attribute

The day was full of bands and pink colours, from flag to bag, from shirt to shoes.

Waited before the Queen's main building between 5 and 6pm, but no chance to see the cyclists pass - quite a long wait there (thought we missed the first group). Just before the next group arrived, rain dropped down and we had to return for the inter-department quiz competition. Neither of my colleagues had an umbrella.

The start of the quiz was quite topical, about the the Giro d'Italia knowledge. Got the knowledge from my line manager that the pink colour was inherited from the newspaper colour when it first came into being, nothing to do with gender.

Really the quiz was too demanding for me as a non-native speaker, an outsider to socio-cultural knowledge (and vocabulary) and local accent. But did contribute to the scores by answering the question about which year of the animal it is in Chinese culture - the other three teams all got it wrong - see, how important my role is to promote Chinese (language/culture) on campus and to local communities :-). There were also questions on sports and an interesting round was 'spot the balls' - they should have included a table tennis shot.

Had pizza quite late and on the way back I early witnessed that there was a pink knot on the white bike. Quite an attribute!

Will try to upload the Giro d'Italia photos (without cyclists) tomorrow. Tired but wish you all a happy weekend!
