Hampden

Home of the Glasgow 2014 medical services training, home of Scottish football and home of the glorious Spiders, aka Queens Park FC.

Dating back to the 1870s, they provided the entire team for the first Scotland v England game, and are responsible for the dark blue kit Scotland still play in. An amateur side who have never paid any player, their motto translates as playing for playing's sake.

My Dad was a Govanhill boy and although a celtic fan, always followed Queens Park too. He used to bring me here or to Lesser Hampden to see Queens Park play but in those days it was rather less fancy. Most surprisingly he managed to persuade my Mum to come to a few games here, but not the regular ones. She saw the European Cup final of 1960, reputed to be one of the best games in history.
