The Phantom of the North

A new venture in our local garden centre is an exhibition space for small animals, meerkats, tortoises, rabbits, ferrets, hedgehogs and an impressive display of birds of prey.

This is Chinook, a giant grey owl; these birds are often called the ghost or phantom owl. They are the world’s largest species and are to be found in the Northern Hemisphere.

This is the first one I have ever seen and it does have a ghostly air about it.

They have amazing hearing and can hear a vole 30 metres away.

Thought you would like to know….amazing the things you find out in your local garden centre and I had only popped in to buy some bedding plants.
