Life Savors

A Table for 32, please.

Today the embassies of 28 EU Member States to the United States opened their doors to the Washington D.C. public. We passed on some of the long lines, but managed to see the embassies of Latvia, Cyprus, Estonia, Romania, Italy, Denmark and the U.K. We even had the chance to chat with the very charming Ambassador from Latvia. We were treated to regional food and drink, music, and folk dancing and had a chance to look at the interior of what were once the stately homes of wealthy Washingtonians.

It was such a treat to walk along Massachusetts Avenue from Dupont Circle to the British Embassy. We have driven along here many, many times, but today we found buildings and statues we had never noticed before.

The highlight was the tour of the British Ambassador's house . It started to rain heavily as we waited in this long line, but we were prepared with rain gear. Unfortunately, it made it difficult to capture any of the beautiful gardens. This is the formal dining room at the British Embassy, nicely set up as if we were all invited to an intimate dinner. :-)
