Mulberry

Leaves of the mulberry tree

In front of the Open University’s refectory is an old mulberry tree, Morus nigra. Its branches have become so long that it needs to have the five main boughs supported by wooden posts. It looks magnificent in the Summer but it’s only just coming into leaf. In the Autumn it will be covered in raspberry like fruits which don’t taste very sweet but apparently can be made into jam.
