In my day it was a group sport to play Daley Thompson decathlon on the ZX spectrum Plus. Taking it in turns fuelled by a heady mix of too strong Ribena concentrate, we hammered those spongy keys to get Daley's pixelated minecraft legs over those track hurdles or to maximum velocity for the high jump.

Sleepovers for 10 year old girls today consist of sitting beside each other, but not talking to each other, mesmerised in their own wee gadget screens in the world of instagram or some very important minecraft or SIMs game, in a darkened cave space in the twilight far away from prying parents. The need for chocolate biscuits, however, does seem to transcend the ages.
