What a day yesterday was!
We celebrated the record breaking Calendar Girls amateur dramatics performances yesterday in Harrogate, with over 200 amateur dramatic group members, Calendar Girls script writer Tim Firth and of course our lovely Calendar Girls and their husbands, including Terry Logan husband of Lynda who has taken the calendar photos since they began. As well as my mum and dad and Tim's mum too!
Roller coaster of emotions, Tim was very funny sharing some of his many Calendar Girls anecdotes, the Girls and Terry shared their stories of the first shoot, including Angela's bottom being chopped off the photo and references to "front bottoms" from Tricia.
We presented awards http://leukaemialymphomaresearch.org.uk/event/special-events/afternoon-tea-calendar-girls and throughout we never forgot John Baker whose untimely tragic death inspired the Girls in the first place. There wasn't a dry eye in the house when 14 year-old Rebecca shared her story of having leukaemia three times since the age of 5. There could not have been a worthier winner of the John Baker Award,an award that honours someone who has demonstrated the same courage, uncompromising spirit and good humour as the Calendar Girls. A wonderful day ended with a rousing rendition of Jerusalem- of course!
