Medieval Stirling

You could be forgiven for thinking that this medieval part of Stirling leading to the castle, is quaint and picturesque, an ideal place to live.

But the reality is somewhat different. If visitors look carefully they will see bars on the windows in Broad St. ( The section I have blipped is obviously derelict!) Years ago I used to have a studio along with a group of other artists in this area because the rent was very cheap. Well, one New Year we had 32 windows smashed by vandals. A brick narrowly missed me one day while I was working there.

Serious attempts have been made in recent years to clean up the area and it is slowly becoming gentrified though you would be ill advised to leave your car there after dark.

This is for Paladian monochrome Monday streetscape challenge.
