Wildfire in 4S Ranch

Looking out our office windows, we can see airplanes and helicopters fighting this fire that was whipped up by high, warm winds and really dry conditions. Such is the life in So. Cal., but recognizing that fact and accepting your house may be next are two different things. Hopefully they can contain this before it gets to any of the homes in the area.

From the local paper:
SAN DIEGO — Flames fanned by stiff gusts of wind burned 400 acres near Del Norte High School Tuesday, prompting numerous evacuations of homes and schools as flames swept into Fairbanks Ranch and toward Rancho Santa Fe.

More than 1,000 residents west of Del Norte High were asked about 12:45 p.m. to evacuate as flames roared across Camino del Sur at Lusardi Creek.

The blazes highlighted the extreme risk of fire throughout San Diego County, which has been under a red-flag warning since Sunday.

Unseasonably high temperatures, strong winds from the east and low humidity prompted the National Weather Service to extend its red-flag warning through Wednesday night, Cal Fire Capt. Kendal Bortisser said.

“All these factors together are wreaking havoc on vegetation in the county,” Bortisser said Wednesday morning.
