fleeting visions

Yes, it was a white-tailed deer. And I took some photos while it was standing there in the back field, ears twitching as the dogs - safely on our side of the fence - barked and ran back and forth, frustrated or perhaps gratified that their territorial tactics kept the deer out of our yard. Eventually the deer left - there were four of them - looking for greener pastures perhaps, not that there is much growing just yet, must be slim pickings for deer this time of year. And I like this photo best because you can see the graceful half-leap-half-saunter as it walks away, tail cocked in that startling salute or perhaps it's merely a deer's way of thumbing its nose at us slower two-legged and four-legged creatures, stuck on this side of the fence.
