What people do on their holidays*

Sit about a lot as far as I can see. Oh, and in London they mooch. There's a lot of mooching going on. Top mooching spots are Trafalgar Square (here), Piccadilly Circus and the parks.

In the meantime: cutting, editing......

But I did have an enjoyable lunch today with Sir David Bell, the man who recruited me to the Financial Times. We have David to thank for London's footbridge at the Tate Modern - you know, the so-called "wobbly bridge". I would have let it wobble.

Have you read any Donna Tartt? I'm reading The Goldfinch just now. It's an astonishing novel, quite the best I have read for a long time.

*Not any better large.
