Peony 'Claire de Lune'

This very early blooming herbaceous peony is one of my favorites. Ten fragrant, cream colored petals with a huge mound of golden stamens on robust stems that don’t need staking are a fabulous garden addition. They are great cut flowers, too.

The early bloom is likely from its wild parent Mlokosewitschi and the light color from its other parent ‘Mons Jules Elie’ (lactiflora group). This interspecies hybrid was created in 1954. It’s another one of those “slow to establish” plants, but well worth the wait.
