Mother of Perpetual Help

Icon of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, St. Mary's Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.

This is my belated Mother's Day greeting. Help and blessing to all moms!

The icon is based on a 15th century image from Crete. It shows the Archangels Michael and Gabriel (thumbnail) revealing themselves to Jesus, who has leapt into his mother's arms — notice the dangling sandal. The Virgin is clothed in midnight blue.

Right after mass tonight there were confirmations at the cathedral. Many proud moms and dads dressed in their finest, awaiting the archbishop's blessing of their children.

Heat wave. Long day. Can't wait to crawl under over the covers.
