Lawn Bowls

This afternoon as I drove past the Kelvingrove Lawn Bowls Centre I noticed a lot of activity on the bowling green.

Teams from the Home Countries were practicing for the Commonwealth Games. Integrated into the lawn bowls programme will be two Para-Sport events for bowlers who are visually impaired or have a physical disability.

The setting may be tranquil, but don’t be fooled – this is Lawn Bowls and the stakes are high.

The earliest known reference to bowling in Glasgow dates back to 1595.

Lawn Bowls is strongly represented throughout the Commonwealth, and Glasgow 2014 will feature a number of current World Champions.

Tonight I am giving a talk on Mackintosh at Gleddoch House to a NADFAS group from Leeds.
