Quod oculus meus videt

Slaughterhouse Field, Weston Park

I know this part of the park as Red Campsite. It is the largest of the campsites used during the V Festival each August. When the festival is on the only area you can walk unhindered is along this track, which is used as a fireway. Nearly every other blade of grass is obscured by tents. It is no exageration that when a person rolls over in one tent they bump someone in the adjoining one!

The reference to slaughterhouse is a couple of buildings, out of shot, where the resident deer in the park were killed and hung to age.

This tree stands as testament to age as well. It has obviously seen better days but as each spring comes round it continues to put on it's green coat for another season. I spoke to the Head Gardener at the park this morning and he commented that the tree planting was so well planned that when a tree is lost, it has a significant impact on the overall setting of the park. I hope we don't lose this one anytime soon.
