TRADITIONS AND CONTROVERSY

17. May and our National Day that are celebrated with children and their teachers going in parade waving Norwegian flags.

This year I decided to take pictures in this side road. The flags hanging in this road are all variations of the Norwegian flags and is a part of an art installation called Urban Intervention. The artist Pelipe Ridao (Uruguay) and Tuva Langfeldt (Norway) meant to create dialog about identity, democracy and independence connected with the flag, but many people are provoked since the have been cutting the Norwegian flag out of proportions. Some wanted they removed so they would not be there on our national day.

Personally I don't mind. As the artists point out during the last 200 years there has been 20 different suggestions to change the flag.

The kids and teachers in the parade seemed happy with the day and the parade.
