Sgwarnog: In the Field

Green Hairstreaks

A year ago a few of us from the Bradford Urban Wildlife Group defied the cool, damp weather to search for Green Hairstreaks on Baildon Moor. We found three.

Today we were out again, the sun was shining, and we found fifty three, including this pair. I'll try to get out again at some point over the next few weeks to look in parts of the moor that we didn't get to today, but it seems the colony here is still pretty healthy.

We also stumbled across a few nice moths, including Ancylis myrtillana, plenty of Common Heath and a Brown Silver-line. There were Small Tortoiseshell, Peacock, Green-veined White, Small White, Speckled Wood and Orange-tip on the wing as well. Not a bad survey day.
